Nifty Seam Allowance Trick

I hate transferring pattern marks, especially the ones that mark where to sew when its really just a standard seam allowance. I skip it, and I use this method to make sure my seam allowances stay true. Let’s face it, those little lines on the machine are faint and not nearly long enough. I remedy this with a bit of ribbon.

I was using a 5/8 inch seam today. Other ways I’ve done it include a sewn band of elastic or even a hair elastic. I didn’t want to waste elastic and the cats steal all the ones for hair, so I decided to pretty up my Singer Curvy with the ribbon. Hope this helps.

Happy sewing,

  1. I stick brightly coloured electricians tape to my machine. However, I must confess it leaves a sticky mess to clean when I need to move it 🙂 Great idea, thanks!
